What is drink spiking?
Drink spiking is when someone has added something, for example, alcohol or drugs, to your drink, without you knowing. This may affect the way you act or how you behave.
Drink spiking is illegal, even if the person affected is not attacked or assaulted. It can result in a prison sentence of up to 10 years for anyone found guilty of doing this.
Why would someone spike my drink?
There are many reasons; the most common are:
· amusement (for a laugh)
· theft
· rape or sexual assault.
What symptoms will I have if my drink is spiked?
This will depend on:
· the type and amount of drug or alcohol used
· how much alcohol you have had to drink
· if you are taking medication (drugs)
· your body size and age.
Symptoms can develop within 5 - 20 minutes and last for up to 12 hours.
The drugs used often make you feel sleepy, weak and reduce your ability to defend yourself. You may not be aware of what is going on around you or what is happening to you.
Common symptoms include:
· dizziness
· difficulty in walking
· confusion, especially the next day or after waking up
· nausea (feeling sick) or vomiting (being sick)
· hallucinations (seeing things which are not there)
· tiredness
· visual problems, for example, blurred vision
· paranoia (a feeling of fear or distrust of others)
· amnesia (loss of memory) especially about things that have happened recently.
High doses of some drugs used to spike drinks can cause problems with your muscles, a coma (a very deep unnatural sleep) and death.
Will I be able to tell if my drink is spiked?
It is hard to tell if your drink has been spiked. The drugs are usually tasteless, odourless (no smell) and have no colour so you would not usually know.
What should I do if I think my drink has been spiked?
If you begin to feel drunk after having only a small amount or no alcohol, or you think your drink may have been spiked, you should:
· get help from a friend you trust or a member of staff
· go to a place of safety as soon as possible; the best place is the medical or welfare area but any location with a member of staff working on the event is safe. Please don’t go home without checking in with the medial team before leaving. Then if they say you are okay to go home only do so with someone you totally trust. If you are with people you do not know, contact a trusted friend to come and take you home and look after you.
If you start to feel very sleepy, vomit or have hallucinations, you should find a member of the security or first aid teams immediately.
How can I try to prevent my drink from being spiked?
You should:
· not leave your drink unattended and keep an eye on friends' drinks
· use the drink covers provided at the bars
· keep your drink in your hand at all times
· never accept a drink from someone who you do not know or trust
· not share, swap or drink any left over drinks
If you think your drink may have been spiked do not drink it, it’s a small cost to buy a new one compared to the potential risk.
There is a variety of high quality street food stalls onsite offering a wide range of food including vegetarian and vegan options.
No food or drink of any description is permitted into the festival.

After the event, please email infos@accessthemusic.co.uk and provide a description on your lost items.
PLEASE NOTE – items will only be kept 4 weeks after the event when they will then be given to local charities.
Searching is a condition of entry to The Event. The Promoter reserves the right to conduct security searches and confiscate any item which in the opinion of the Promoter (or relevant venue operator) may cause danger or disruption, be a health and safety risk, not be suitable to be taken into the Event or is one of the items not permitted in the Venue as detailed in these Terms and Conditions. Anyone found in possession of illegal substances or contraband goods will be refused admission to or ejected from the Venue and may also be liable for prosecution. Any items found that may be used in an illegal or offensive manner will be confiscated, regardless of whether or not the item itself is illegal.
ALCOHOL
· Pace yourself.
· Try to avoid getting too intoxicated in unfamiliar situations. You can lose control, make risky decisions and become less aware of danger.
· Alcohol and other drugs can impair your judgement; don’t feel pressured into doing anything you aren’t comfortable with.
· If you are having a bad time or struggling but don’t feel you need medical attention, visit the Welfare Team.
· If someone becomes unconscious or unresponsive, put them in the recovery position (on their side) and seek immediate medical attention by alerting the nearest member of security.
· Alternate alcoholic drinks with soft drinks. Being blind drunk and vomiting isn’t fun.
· If you are drinking from early in the day, try to stick to drinks with a lower ABV for example lager rather than spirits
· Alcohol is the most common substance used to spike drinks. Never leave drinks unattended and don’t accept a drink from someone you don’t know.
DRUGS POLICY
Access Events does not condone the use of drugs. Drugs enforcement laws are as applicable onsite as anywhere else in the UK. It is illegal to buy, sell or take drugs. All drugs are potentially dangerous, there are no harmless drugs. Amnesty bins are located at the entrance to the site and the Welfare area. The only way to avoid risks is to not take drugs at all. This goes for new psychoactive substances (formerly known as “legal highs”) as well.
But we want our Event goers to know above all else that you can come to us for help if you or your friends need it without fear of getting in trouble at any time.
Always be honest with medics and welfare teams about what you have consumed so that they know how best to help you.
DRUGS ADVICE
We do not recommend you take drugs, but if you do please bear the following in mind.
· There are drugs in circulation in the UK that can kill with one single pill Mixing drugs with other drugs / alcohol / prescription drugs can be very dangerous and mixing is behind many drugs deaths.
· Cheap does not mean weak.
· Pure does not mean safe.
· You don’t know the strength of what you might be taking. You don’t know how your body will react. You can’t tell what you are taking by looking at it. You can’t tell how you will react by the reaction others have had.
· Remember that tolerance levels can vary. You may not have the same tolerance level as your friends. You can always up your dose but you can’t reduce it. Wait at least 2 hours before taking any more. Start low and go slow.
· If your powder or pills don’t take effect as quickly as you would expect, don’t assume they are poor quality – they may contain another substance that takes longer to take effect. If you then take more as a result you are at increased risk of overdose when the combined doses do kick in. Start low and go slow.
· Treat all drugs as unknown.
· Take regular breaks if you are dancing or exercising or in a hot environment and rehydrate with water or soft drinks – take small sips regularly but don’t have more than one pint an hour.
· Having an isotonic drink can help if you have been drinking a lot of water.
· Use in a safe environment, with people you trust and not alone. Be open with your friends about what you are taking and look out for each other. Ask for help if you need it.
· You can talk to the Welfare Team onsite in confidence at any time and they will have drugs advisory staff to help you.
DEALERS
We will take firm action in conjunction with the local Police to arrest dealers.
· There are covert staff onsite and as a condition of entry you are subject to search at any time. Staff will search for illegal items including drugs.
·If someone offers you drugs, please report them to the nearest member of security with as much information as you can.
